ABOUT
Júlia Levai is a theatre director & dramaturg from Budapest based in London. She recently trained on the National Theatre Studio’s Directors Course and was Staff Director on Coriolanus and Dear Octopus at the National Theatre.
She is interested in creating new work via collaborative processes and directing radical reworkings of classics.
Júlia recently directed the premiere of Nancy Netherwood’s new play, Radiant Boy at Southwark Playhouse.
She is next working as Staff Director to Stephen Daldry on The Land of The Living at the National Theatre. She is also co-creating and directing a radical adaption of a Shakespeare play premiering in November 2025.
Júlia has previously worked as assistant/associate/staff director at theatres such as the National Theatre, RSC, Royal Court, and the Young Vic. She previously received an MGCFutures bursary, and was ‘Director in Residence’ at the National Theatre in Belgrade supported by the European Theatre Convention & Creative Europe.
She trained on LAMDA’s MA Directing course, the Royal Court’s inaugural Directors Group, and the Young Vic’s Jerwood Assistant Director Program.
She is a script reader for the NT Studio, Papatango Prize, Bruntwood Prize, and for Paines Plough’s Women’s Prize For Playwriting.
